Virtual reality has come a long way in the past decade, transforming from a niche interest to a proper mainstream pastime. Part of the reason for this shift is the rise of high-value all-in-one VR headsets like Meta Quest 3S. While it’s welcomingly affordable at its usual price point, you can now pick one up with a delightful discount.
On Amazon US, you’ll find Meta Quest 3S available for $269 netting you a 10% ($30.99) saving off of its list price and making it the cheapest the headset has ever been. Better still, it comes with a complimentary copy of Batman: Arkham Shadow and a three-month trial of Meta Quest+, providing you access to a large library of games.
Quest 3S is just as powerful as its more-expensive sibling, rocking the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor and 8GB of RAM. In essence, you can expect the same level of fidelity and performance in applications on this headset as you would on Quest 3.
Similarities continue in terms of controllers, motion tracking, and software, as Quest 3S remains identical to Quest 3 in these regards. It’s broadly similar in design too, meaning that you can use the same accessories across either headset.
Where Quest 3S makes the bulk of its saving is in its display. Its fresnel lenses offer a per-eye resolution of 1832×1920 and an FOV of 110×96°. While this is still plenty good for virtual reality, it does fall short of the Quest 3’s pancake lenses which are both sharper and wider. However, both headsets support up to 120Hz refresh rates.
Quest 3S does boast a smaller battery than Quest 3, but runtime is about the same. Given that the SoC is identical across the two headsets, this is likely a welcome knock-on effect from its lower-resolution displays. Suffice to say, you’ll be able to spend a couple of hours in virtual reality no problem.
If you have a capable PC handy, you can also connect Quest 3S to your system either wirelessly via Air Link or with a physical cable. In doing so, you can enjoy performance beyond the built-in chipset and play. Even a graphics cards akin to GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB should provide a noticeable uplift.
