Lenovo has launched the business-focused ThinkPhone smartphone during CES 2023. It features a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, 12GB of memory, an OLED screen, and a 5,000mAh battery rated to last for 36 hours.
Made by Motorola, the ThinkPhone comes at 188.5g and measures 158.76mm x 74.38mm x 8.26mm. It follows the same design style you find on many Think products, with a carbon-like back and a dedicated red button on the side.
On the right side, there are basic power and volume buttons with the left side including a signature red button that can be programmed to do many different tasks such as opening a specific app. By default, apps can be streamed to a nearby computer, files copied or edited directly from PC, the phone used as a camera if your laptop’s isn’t good enough, and cast the phone screen to a laptop, TV, or monitor, allowing it to be used as a computer by hooking a keyboard and mouse.
While the ThinkPhone is connected to the computer, you can stream playlists, seamlessly copy/paste text across devices, transfer files, see notifications, send and respond to text messages, and even answer calls.
Spec-wise, we have Android 13, a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM plus 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage, a 6.6in FHD+ OLED display, and a 5,000mAh battery which can be charged via USB Type-C up to 68W with the included charger, or wirelessly up to 15W. Note that the charger is capable of powering other Think laptops, too, which can get handy during travel.
The front is home to a 32MP camera that can be used for meetings, but if it’s still not enough, on the back there’s a 50MP main sensor plus a 13MP ultrawide angle with a 120° FOV. Rounding it out, dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, dual Nano SIM slots, NFC, and all the usual Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 5G connectivity.
This phone is made to last, as well, because aside from security features, it is also MIL-STD 810H certified, designed with lightweight aramid fibre and an aircraft-grade aluminium frame, with Gorilla Glass Victus covering the screen. All while having IP68 protection, which means up to 1.5m of fresh water for 30 minutes.
Finally, coming sometime later this year at an unknown price, the ThinkPhone is scheduled to have four years of OS security updates and three major OS updates. An interesting addition to the premium smartphone market, no doubt.
