LG’s MyView Smart Monitor proves all screens need built-in Netflix

If only it was OLED.

LG MyView Smart Monitor 34SR65QC.

LG has announced the 34SR65QC monitor, combining smart TV features with a desktop ultrawide aspect ratio. At 34in, this monitor should deliver a great experience, be it during work, gaming, or watching shows.

34SR65QC is a 21:9 WQHD monitor boasting a 3440×1440 resolution. Its 34in curved VA panel is rated for 300nits of brightness and 99% sRGB gamut coverage. While the brand didn’t share much information regarding the panel specs, we expect its contrast to sit around 4000:1, with 1ms GtG pixel response time.

I’d bet an OLED panel would suit this display much better with deep blacks and per-pixel local dimming. That said, with a VA panel, you can use this monitor for office tasks without thinking about burn-in or panel degradation. Its ultrawide aspect begs for multi-tasking, after all. Besides, as much as OLED is coming down in price, most other panel types are still cheaper.

As a smart monitor, 34SR65QC gets native app support through LG’s webOS, granting access to Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and Apple TV, just to name a few. Music fans can enjoy Spotify, while gamers have Nvidia’s GeForce Now directly on the monitor. Sure, you can run all of this from the very system hooked up to the display, but this is far more efficient.

Most importantly, having native streaming apps comes with some benefits. For example, the Netflix app lets you watch in up to 4K quality with HDR and 5.1 audio, whereas browsers (aside from Edge) can’t do more than 720p. The app also lets you download movies and TV shows to view offline, which is great.

34SR65QC also features LG’s free and premium content services, providing more than 300 channels spanning multiple categories such as movies, sports, and news. And if this is not enough, you can always hook this bad boy to your smartphone via AirPlay or ScreenShare and project your content on a bigger screen.

A nice overall package that has a lot to offer. The only important bit left to know is pricing which the brand didn’t share. However, for such a package we would expect at least a £300 tag.
