It’s official, Motorola is back to make foldables great again with the Razr 2022. Introduced to Chinese Markets nearly three months ago, the company has now belatedly introduced its latest iteration to the rest of the world, starting with select European Markets.
This marks the third revision of its sleek modern foldable and confirms previous rumours the company would release a worthy rival to the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip series.
As it stands, the Razr 2022 is a clamshell design available in only one colourway, Satin Black. Henry Ford would be proud. The outer shell is split in two halves; the top carrying a tiny 2.7in ‘Quick View’ display for notifications covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and the bottom features an aluminium body with a Motorola logo dead centre and Razr branding directly below.
The top shell also houses a dual camera array featuring a 50-megapixel primary snapper alongside a 13-megapixel ultrawide lens. The bottom half is where you’ll find a USB 3.1 Type-C port capable of fast charging a 3,500mAh battery at 30W.
Allaying fears of reliability, the hinge is a totally redesigned variant made of stainless steel that holds steady at various angles, or seamlessly opens revealing a large 6.7in flexible HD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400×1080 that’s good for up to 144Hz refresh rates and carries HDR10+ certification.
Motorola also chose to go with a top centre punch-hole design for its main selfie camera that features a 32-megapixel sensor. Neat.
Audio is covered by dual stereo speakers with support for Dolby Atmos, a trio of microphones for crystal clear voice calling, and wireless connectivity is handled by a Wi-Fi 6E chipset with Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity.
Rounding off the wealthy list of specs, Razr 2022 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset mated to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. All this fits swimmingly in an 80mm x 86mm x 7.62mm body when closed, or 80mm x 167mm x 7.62mm when fully opened, weighing an impressive 200g.
Interesting to note, the China-only version included up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Perhaps more versions will be released at a later date depending on its success.
The Motorola Razr 2022 is currently available in the UK at a slightly higher price tag of £949.99 when compared to its initial China-only release, with US markets being confirmed at a later date. Go Moto.
