MSI offers latest connectivity with its X870 boards

A modern package with faster data transfers.

MSI has revealed two of its upcoming AM5 motherboards featuring AMD’s X870 chipset for Ryzen 9000 CPUs. The new lineup includes the latest wired and wireless connectivity options.

To begin with, MSI is planning at least two high-end X870 motherboards, MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi and Pro X870-P WiFi. These should cover the mid-to-high-end segment as they don’t use an X870-E chipset. Nonetheless, they carry many high-end features, starting with upgraded wireless Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, USB 4 Type-C, and support for multiple full-size PCIe add-on cards.

MSI EZ PCIe Release.

To help you deal with the ever-increasing size of the best graphics cards, these boards leverage the brand’s EZ PCIe Release button, allowing you to remove your GPU even if the main PCIe lock is inaccessible. Let me tell you, I wish I had this on my board last time I cleaned my PC. For a second, I was going to give up on cleaning the card since I was unable to unlock it.

Additionally, MSI has also reinforced the primary slot to handle the weight associated with these massive coolers. Lastly, between these slots, you will find three M.2 connections for SSDs, one of which rocks Gen 5 speeds – potentially up to 14GB/s. Not to forget the EZ M.2 Clip II which allows the removal of M.2 heatsinks with a simple pull.

MSI EZ Antenna.

Note that these should also be compatible with existing Ryzen 7000 chips if you like the feature set yet don’t want to upgrade to a next-gen CPU. Moreover, MSI has plans for other MPG and MEG series boards to ensure a diverse range of options covering every need.

While current X670 and B650 boards – including E variants – should soon be updated to support AMD’s Ryzen 9000 CPUs, the faster WiFi 7 connection is enticing, to say the least. It can and should come in handy in residential areas where regular 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless waves may be cluttered thanks to its newer 6GHz band. Plus, they look nice too.

MSI is all about WiFi 7

If you can’t upgrade to one of these new motherboards, don’t sweat it. MSI also has a BE6500 WiFi 7 USB adapter to give your current system the same speedy upgrade. It’s plug-and-play into any USB 3.2 Gen 1 port or newer and works with Windows 10, 11, and Linux devices, offering speeds up to 688Mb/s on 2.4GHz and 2,882Mb/s on both 5GHz and 6GHz bands.

MSI Roamii WiFi 7 Mesh system.

Of course, it’s not just about the host PC but the network you connect to. MSI has you covered there, too, with its Roamii WiFi 7 Mesh series. Roamii BE Max leads the charge with Multi-link operation, 4K-QAM, and MU-MIMO. It houses four 2.5Gb/s Ethernet ports, a single 10Gb/s port, and up to 21Gb/s wireless connectivity. You get two devices in a package, which covers up to 6,200 square feet combined.

There are two more devices in the range, but MSI didn’t go into much detail about them. Roamii BE Pro scales things down with four 2.5Gb/s Ethernet ports and dual Gigabit, maintaining 11Gb/s WiFi. Meanwhile the entry-level Roamii BE Lite has one 2.5Gb/s port and dual Gigabit connections, and likely lacks the full WiFi 7 compatibility.
