MSI’s new power supply captivates with the Midas touch

I love gold! The look of it! The smell of it! The taste of it! The texture!

MSI has presented a high-end ATX PSU for gaming PCs featuring top-notch efficiency and a fantastic design. This powerhouse should provide all the energy needed to drive the latest GPUs to their limit.

MEG Ai1600T PCIe5 has everything a gaming machine could need, two 12v-2×6 power cables for Nvidia’s best graphics cards, plus nine 8-pin headers for CPUs and regular 6+2-pin GPUs. To avoid any risk of burning due to an improper cable connection, MSI bundles its customised cable connectors which feature yellow-painted pin sockets. With this simple solution, you can be sure your 12v-2×6 cable is fully plugged in the moment the yellow bit disappears.

Moreover, this power isn’t being used willy-nilly as the MEG Ai1600T boasts the highest 80 Plus Titanium certification, i.e. 96% efficiency at 50% load. This means most of the energy is being pushed towards the hardware instead of being wasted as heat. Talking of which, it appears that the chassis itself will be used as a heatsink to improve the unit cooling.

To ensure a captivating style, MSI has slapped a captivating RGB panel that covers half of the PSU side. But that’s not all. The top of this PSU is covered with a golden cage to protect the fan, featuring a gold-painted triangle for premium flair. Quite flashy if you ask me.

MEG Ai1600T also features a Type-C connector alongside its 8-pin headers, probably used for monitoring and RGB control. Lastly, MSI claims an optimised power factor correction thanks to an interleaved PFC configuration using high-quality materials – SiC MOSFETs.

MSI says it’ll release the model later this year for $500. It’s not surprising seeing the power on hand and the features surrounding it.
