The floodgates have opened as Nvidia struggles to keep a lid on its impending Blackwell Series of graphics cards. This time, GeForce RTX 5070 Ti is in the spotlight, offering a decent uplift over the previous generation, if not a huge leap.
Speaking with prominent leaker Kopite7kimi, Videocardz confirms that RTX 5070 Ti will pack a cut-down GB203 GPU under the hood. This is the same chip inside RTX 5080, but it will scale things back to include a slimmer 8,960 CUDA Cores and 70 Streaming Multiprocessors.
To put this into perspective, the current-generation RTX 4070 Ti includes 7,680 CUDA Cores and 60 Streaming Multiprocessors, making its successor 17% beefier should the leak hold water. This means Blackwell is a little more conservative than the 26% leap between Ampere and Ada Lovelace.
Naturally, an amped-up specification demands a chunk more power, with Kopite7kimi claiming the new card will warrant a 300W draw. Currently, it’s not clear as to whether this is the total graphics power (TGP) or thermal design power (TDP), but it shouldn’t matter if it follows suit to the previous generation, as RTX 4070 Ti tends not to reach its 285W rating.
Remaining specs, such as VRAM configuration and bus, remain a mystery. The SKU is sandwiched between a 12GB RTX 5070 and 16GB RTX 5080, meaning it could lean either way. All signs point towards less if history repeats itself, but there will be a performance boon coming from the new GDDR7 memory over the previous GDDR6X variant.
This is just the fourth RTX 50 Series graphics card featured in leaks, but there are likely many more in the pipeline. Sinotex International Industrial Ltd has listed a total of 15 to keep an eye out for via an EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission) filing, although these might just be placeholders.
For many, the primary upgrade factor will hinge on price. Nvidia considering $1,900 for its RTX 5090 doesn’t inspire much hope that it’ll make the 17% specs boost worth it, but it’ll find slightly more competition from Intel and AMD in the mid-to-high end than the enthusiast market. We’ll know more at CES 2025 when Team Green debuts Blackwell to the world.
