Nvidia is throwing a giant GeForce giveaway leading up to its RTX 50 series reveal

It's been 25 years since GeForce 256 hit the scene and Nvidia plans to celebrate its past in a big way before it turns to the future.

Nvidia has seemingly confirmed its plans to reveal GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards at CES 2025. Exciting at this by itself, the company is taking the weeks leading up the announcement to celebrating its 25 year history. It’s doing so in style, complete with giveaways and a big gaming marathon.

First, the future. As part of its GeForce Greats sweepstakes, Nvidia specifically says “before we look to the future, let’s take a nostalgic journey to celebrate the all-time greats of PC gaming.” This is undoubtedly in reference to its GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs. There’s nothing more to say on this front, but the company is at least making the march towards its launch a fun one.

From now until January 6, 2025, Nvidia is asking users to generate hype by following its social media accounts and using the hashtag ‘#GeForceGreats’ in posts. Doing so feeds into a literal hype meter that will unlock prizes to win as it grows in size. There are six mystery boxes up for grabs, valued around $2,000-4,300 dollars each, all themed after games with Diablo IV leading the charge.

As CES 2025 draws closer, Nvidia will also kickstart a 50-hour long gaming marathon on January 5, 2025, at 12:30am (GMT). The company will be hosting events in four locations around the world but you can also join in the festivities from the comfort of your home. Doing so will net you in-game rewards for Diablo IV, The Elder Scrolls Online, and several other titles. To claim your items, just make sure your system has the Nvidia App ready to go come the start time.

Much as this is in service of building excitement to GeForce RTX 50 series, it’s also in celebration of the first-ever GeForce card. 25 years ago, Nvidia launched GeForce 256, debuting with SDR memory on October 11 before quickly following suit with a DDR version on December 13, 1999. Dubbed by its creators as “the world’s first ‘GPU'”, it delivered an enormous leap in 3D rendering and helped pave the way for hardware-accelerated graphics.

As a reminder, Nvidia’s CES 2025 keynote will take place on January 7, 2025 at 2:30AM (GMT). Club386 will be in Las Vegas for the show, but you’ll be able to watch along via the public livestream.
