It feels like everyone, myself included, is fervently waiting for the official word from Nvidia on when it plans to launch its GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards. While there’s still no word from the company itself, new rumours suggest we won’t have to wait long to see the entire stack emerge. In fact, we could have most, if not all, Lovelace GPUs hit the market within the space of three months.
With Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang taking the stage at CES 2025, it seems almost certain that he will reveal GeForce RTX 50 series during the Las Vegas tech conference. This isn’t too surprising, given GeForce RTX 40 series has been on the scene for the past two years now. However, the release strategy for these would-be best graphics cards will apparently differ massively from their predecessors.
According to Board Channels (via Videocardz), Nvidia plans to launch GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 in January 2025. Both GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and 5070 will follow shortly after in February 2025. Finally, GeForce RTX 5060 Ti and 5060 will round off the stack in March 2025. That’s potentially six graphics cards in the space of three months, making for an undeniably aggressive release strategy. As a reminder, the Green Team released GeForce RTX 4060 eight months after GeForce RTX 4090. Notably, this leak marks the first mention of both GeForce RTX 5060 Ti and 5060.
If true, this suggests that Nvidia is confident it can provide sufficient stock for every performance tier to meet demand. Furthermore, it would demonstrate that the company believes its more budget-friendly models won’t greatly impact the sales of its higher-end offerings. After all, potential buyers of GeForce RTX 5060 are worlds apart from those who’d even consider GeForce RTX 5090.
This aggressive launch schedule could be a response AMD RDNA 4, with Nvidia hoping to maintain market share and leave its competitors’ upcoming cards little room to breathe. Naturally, this would impact Intel Arc Battlemage graphics cards too. While little is known about the potential performance of GeForce RTX 5060, rumours surrounding GeForce RTX 5090 suggest there could be a gargantuan gap for Team Blue and Red to plug.
There’s only a few months now until CES 2025, so we won’t have to wait too long to see if these rumours hold true. Suffice to say, the coming year looks to be a busy one for graphics cards.
