Philips announces Evnia 27M2C5500W 27in QHD VA gaming monitor

Good specs at good pricing.

Philips has launched the latest member of its Evnia series featuring a 27in curved VA panel capable of reaching 240Hz, with FreeSync support for tear-free gaming.

Dubbed Evnia 27M2C5500W, this gaming monitor is based on a 1000R curved VA panel offering a QHD (2560×1440 or 108.79 PPI density) resolution running at a super-fast 240Hz refresh rate with 1ms GtG response time. To ensure smooth screen refresh, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro is supported and delivers VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) from 48 to 240Hz, plus LFC (Low Framerate Compensation) which doubles each frame when the refresh goes below the screen’s minimum 48Hz.

The combination of the VA panel and a WLED backlight allows it to reach a 3000:1 static contrast ratio, with 178°/178° viewing angles, and 98.5 per cent NTSC plus 119 per cent sRGB colour gamut at an 8-bit colour depth. Add to that 400cd/m² brightness to get a basic HDR400 implementation, giving users a small taste of what the technology can bring, from higher peak brightness to deeper colours. Philips advertises factory calibration with DeltaE below 2.

Connectivity comprises downstream USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A (two with fast charging), two HDMI 2.0, two DisplayPort 1.4, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Note that HDMI only supports 144Hz, and that PiP plus PbP modes can only display two sources simultaneously. Finally, one of each cable type is included in the box.

All of the above is housed inside Evnia’s signature monitor-back, made of multiple square patterns linked to marble-like stand feet. Talking of which, the stand provides tilt (-5°/+20°), swivel (-30°/+30°), and height (130 mm) adjustments, alongside a 100x100mm VESA mount.

“Reflecting Evnia’s mission to provide today’s gamers with the equipment they need to get the most enjoyment out of every gaming session, the Philips Evnia monitors combine smooth gameplay, visual fidelity, and rapid response times in one elegantly designed package. We’re proud of this irresistible model, of Evnia and what it stands for,” said Xeni Bairaktari, Global Marketing Lead and Senior Brand Manager EU at MMD Monitors and Displays.

The Philips Evnia 27M2C5500W will be available for purchase by the end of January at £429.99.
