Prepare for Nintendo Switch 2 with this SanDisk microSD Express card deal

Switch 2 isn't compatible with your existing microSD card collection, but shifting to microSD Express thankfully isn't a huge expense.

Despite promising plenty of generational leaps, Nintendo Switch 2 isn’t a huge departure from its predecessor in many respects, thankfully retaining support for expandable storage. However, your old microSD cards won’t cut it in the new console and you’ll instead need to equip yourself with microSD Express cards instead. Thankfully, you can save a few bucks on one right now.

SanDisk microSD Express card

“Unleash your creative potential and dive into new experiences with SanDisk microSD™ Express, the next-gen microSD™ card for those who refuse to settle.” – SanDisk

SanDisk, ever-reliable manufacturers of mini storage, offers microSD Express cards in either 128GB of 256GB capacities. The smaller of the two is available on Amazon US with a 10% ($5) discount making it just $44.99. However, the larger of the two is the better value buy at $59.99, down 8% ($5) from its list price. Double the storage for a small premium, it’s the one to aim for.

While microSD Express cards look identical to their predecessors, they’re much faster. The SanDisk models above boast respective sequential read and write speeds of 880MB/s and 480MB/s. For context, the very best microSD cards top out at around 170MB/s (read) and 90MB/s (write). You can quickly separate the two types by the presence of an ‘EX’ (Express) logo printed on their front.

Nintendo hasn’t shared how large a footprint games like Mario Kart World or Donkey Kong Bananza will have. However, considering Switch 2 arrives with 256GB built-in, up from the 64GB of the original console, it’s safe to assume they’ll be larger than OG Switch titles. That’s not forgetting the space that GameCube games will demand.

There’s sadly no sign of Nintendo-themed microSD Express cards akin to the Pokémon microSD cards released a while back, but I’m confident it’s only a matter of time before such designs make their way to market. I’ll keep lookout for any such fancies, so follow Club386 on Google News in the meantime. Expect more on Switch 2 deals and more from the team.
