QNAP has launched TS-h765eU, a NAS designed for space-constrained environments. This 1U rackmount solution offers great flexibility for home users, giving the option for faster storage or connectivity while allowing capacity upgrades down the line.
Boasting a short depth of only 292.1mm, TS-h765eU suits small media cabinets or wall-mounted network racks. Despite its shallow profile, it manages to offer four 3.5in SATA drive bays plus three E1.S/M.2 PCIe NVMe slots. If you need even more storage, you can also connect a USB JBOD TR-004U to add up to 144TB of capacity using 24TB HDDs. Note however that the short rail kit Rail-S01 is an optional purchase.
Since the four 3.5in bays can hold more than enough capacity for most users, using the rear M.2 slots for caching seems ideal. This way you reduce latency all while enhancing random read/write efficiency (IOPS) for small files.

These drives connect to your network via two 2.5GbE LAN ports that can combine to attain faster data transfer and backup speeds by enabling Port Trunking or SMB Multichannel. Otherwise, you can always swap one M.2 slot for a 10GbE QXG-ES10G1T module if you want something faster than the included LAN solution. A perfect combo to the brand’s USB4 to 10GbE adapter for Macs and PCs.
An Intel Atom x7000C series processor powers TS-h765eU, backed by 16GB of DDR5 RAM with support for In-Band ECC (IBECC) to ensure data reliability. Add to that RAID support and you get a reliable NAS for individuals and professionals. But if you want more redundancy, you can also archive your files to the QNAP-hosted cloud which only charges for storage space.
On the software side, TS-h765eU runs a ZFS-based QuTS hero operating system, which ensures data integrity using WORM (Write Once, Read Many) protection, preventing ransomware threats modifying or deleting written data. Regarding data corruption, it features ZIL (ZFS Intent Log) which protects against power failure by safeguarding unwritten data. There is even an algorithm that automatically monitors RAID SSD lifespan to prevent simultaneous drive failures, and thus data loss.

The QuTS hero h5.2.3 OS is compatible with most client systems, including Mac OS 10.10 or later, Ubuntu 14.04, and Windows 7 to 11 / Windows Server 2008 R2 to 2022. It gives you synchronised file access on the go to all data across multiple devices, allowing for efficient teamwork.
The QNAP TS-h765eU-8G is available for £894, giving you 8GB of RAM, four 3.5in SATA bays, three E1.S/M.2 PCIe NVMe slots, two 2.5GbE, and one 5Gbps USB 3.2, backed by a three-year warranty. To boost user confidence, the brand will also support this NAS solution until 2031.
