RTX 5070 specs leak puts Nvidia Blackwell GPUs into perspective

It's a mixed bag that all hinges on price.

Team Green’s GeForce RTX 50 Series lineup is taking shape as new rumours complete the specs of the top four models. Today, whispers put RTX 5070 in the spotlight, which is currently the tamest SKU we know of.

Following the RTX 5070 Ti specs leak, RTX 5070 takes the fourth spot in the brand’s next-gen lineup, carrying 6,400 CUDA cores alongside 12GB of GDDR7 memory linked via a 192-bit bus. In other words, less than a third of the CUDA cores than those in the flagship model.

As you can see, the launch roster for the RTX 50 Series is almost complete, with a gap in the entry-level. We’re also missing details on some featured cards, such as memory speed and bandwidth. Still, the current stack seems varied enough. The only complaint one may have is the unchanged VRAM capacity compared to the RTX 40 Series.

Also, note how Benchlife lists the GB202-300 GPU powering the RTX 5090 as packing 21,760 CUDA cores instead of the previously rumoured 24,576 cores. This could mean one of two things: either the previous rumour is wrong, or RTX 5090 doesn’t fully utilise the GB202 GPU.

If Nvidia leaves performance on the table, it opens the way for a potential RTX 5090 Ti/Super or a Titan model. That said, looking at the RTX 4090, which only leverages 16,384 CUDA cores out of the AD102’s 18,432 cores and wasn’t accompanied by a superior variant, we may never see a faster chip on the RTX 50 Series. After all, Nvidia needs to tread lightly so as not to usurp the performance of its Blackwell data centre cards when the consumer variants need to target a lower price point.

Needless to say, this will result in a noticeable performance reduction compared to what we expected. But still, RTX 5090 should maintain a comfortable lead over its predecessor, perhaps reaching 30% when factoring in the extra CUDA cores, faster memory, and architectural improvements.

Benchlife sources have indicated that Nvidia plans to release RTX 5090, 5090D, 5080, 5070 Ti, and 5070 in Q1 2025, adding that RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 may be unveiled before April. Lastly, the RTX 50 Series could cost much more than its predecessor, but again, like these specs, take this information with a grain of salt.
