SSD prices have tumbled so quickly it’s hard to keep up. Mere weeks after the 8TB 870 QVO SSD dropped to an-all-time low of £316, Samsung has kicked off an autumn cashback promotion, whereby buyers can claim a further £50 reward on the drive in question.

You don’t need us to do the math and tell you that £266 for an 8TB SSD is an absolute bargain, and the best price we’ve seen by some distance.

Remember, this very drive retailed for over £600 only a year ago. A simple PC or laptop upgrade, the 2.5in SSD delivers sequential read and write speeds of 560MB/s and 530MB/s, respectively, via a SATA 6Gbps interface. Samsung backs the drive with a three-year warranty, and though not strictly a NAS-certified device, sheer capacity is such that it’s hard to resist the temptation.

Wasn’t long ago that the cost of solid-state technology proved prohibitive for large-capacity arrays in the home or office. That’s no longer the case, as a 16TB setup using two of these Samsung drives would cost a little over £500.

Samsung’s promotion terms state the drive must be purchased from an eligible retailer (Amazon UK is included) before midnight on October 9, 2023. After purchase, you’ll need to visit the official cashback page and fill out the form complete with proof of purchase.

The reward will be sent via bank transfer within 30 days, but here’s the best bit, each individual participant can claim on up to four purchased products per household; ideal if you want to stock up on storage.
