Valve has reported a record-breaking year for its Steam platform. Apparently over the last 12 months, The Half-Life maker has seen over 14,000 titles released on Steam. This smashes 2022’s record by a massive 2,000 games. A year to celebrate indeed.
According to SteamDB the exact amount totals to a whopping 14,531 titles released through out the year. To put this sheer amount into perspective, this equates to an average of around 1,170 games released per month. Breaking it down further, this average amounts to about 40 releases ever single day.
That’s not all mind you, January 2024 seems to continue this trend. So far, 43 games have already been released on Steam, and it is only the second day of the month. Geez Louis.
Breaking it Down
The data suggests that the number of annual Steam releases has been on a positive trajectory since 2006. This is a particularly significant year because the platform opened its doors to third-party developers a year prior in 2005. However, 2023 revealed a notable victory over the previous year which had an estimated 12,562 titles land on Steam. In fact, October 2023 was the year’s most fruitful month having a total of 1,324 releases alone.
Nonetheless, it’s also been a great year for quality. According to Valve’s Best of 2023 list, PC gamers enjoyed a mix of old and new multiplayer and single player titles. Top sellers include Starfield, Baldur’s Gate 3, Apex Legends, COD: MW3, and Cyberpunk 2077, to name but a few.
As for most played titles on the platform, Baldur’s Gate 3, Half-Life, The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring and Dave the Diver were named among the top contenders.
