Prime Day 2024 tips

Whether you’re a seasoned shopper or a Prime Day newcomer, here are a few nuggets of advice.

Budget and wishlist

The dazzle of discounts can be difficult to manage. For some, so much choice can create a paralysis of sorts, potentially leading to missed opportunities to bag a cracking deal. For others, it’s the complete opposite, leaving you with a house full of stuff you didn’t necessarily want or need and a bank account that’s decidedly emptier. So, the most important advice for all Prime Day shoppers is: budget and wishlist.

Having a clear idea of what you’re searching for and how much you’re willing to spend on it will help focus your spending on products you actually want or need. Of course, a few unexpected items shouldn’t hurt, but always question whether you’re buying something because of its price tag rather than its actual value. Your foremost reason for a purchase should never be a discount.

Research

Retailers are notorious for inflating prices prior to Prime Day in order for their discounts to appear steeper come the event. As such, it’s important to get a sense the pricing history of a product before then, to ensure you’re getting a genuinely good deal.

Thankfully, tools like CamelCamelCamel make this an easy task. It’s important to note that there’s no guarantee that the particular products you search for on the site will get Prime Day discounts. However, it still gives you a gist of what the average market price is beforehand to avoid any dodgy discounts with questionable value.

Lightning deals

Of all the discounts you’ll see on Prime Day, Lightning Deals are typically the ones that offer the best value. They either run for a limited time or until all stock earmarked for a promotional price runs out. You’ll need to plan ahead to avoid missing out on some lightning deals, but your efforts should be worth it.

Deal notifications are one of the best ways to capture a Lightning Deal as it strikes. You can set these up for particular searches or products via your Amazon account.

We’ll be rooting through Amazon Prime Day 2024’s cave of wonders and providing recommendations throughout the event. In the meantime though, be sure to give our product guides and reviews a read to prepare your wishlist ahead of time.
