Rockstar might not release GTA 6 on PC until 2026, a year after its console release. It’ll seem like deja vu to returning players, who had to wait the same amount of time for GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 to arrive on the platform.
There’s a lot to feast your eyes on in the GTA 6 trailer. There’s a new protagonist duo, the return of a familiar setting sporting a new lick of paint, and a whole lot of social media. Don’t pin too much hope on that 2025 release date if you’re a PC player, though. The press release makes no mention of the platform.
Instead, Rockstar’s latest Grand Theft Auto will head to Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 first. To nobody’s surprise, it’s truly a next-gen game. Eventually, it’ll arrive on PC at an undetermined date afterwards.
To make the wait even more painful, it looks like the console release could be the back end of 2025. Rockstar doesn’t give us a narrowed window beyond the year, but eagle-eyed fans are scouring the trailer front to back.
One easter egg features a plane carrying a banner saying “why sixty-nine when you can nine 1 nine?” While those with our minds in the gutter immediately understand the first reference, the second is more obscure. Naturally, people look towards a potential date: September 19, 2025. Of course, it could just be a reference to Miami’s famous 24-hour ultraclub, E11EVEN, or something even filthier than 69. My guess is that it’ll be a radio station or Spotify playlist, since Vice City’s selection was fantastic. All I’m certain of is that it’s my birthday.
Grand Theft Auto 5 released on September 17, but it’s tough establishing a pattern when Rockstar hasn’t released many games over the past decade. For now, your guess is as good as mine and we’ll just need to be patient.
